Quique first met Neruda when the bard visited his grammer school just down the coast from Isla Negra. Now, after recording five albums, Quique has received funding from sources such as the National Endowment for the Arts and Latino Public Broadcasting to complete his multimedia-project, "Archeology of Memory," based on his experiences in Pinochet's prison camps and his subsequent exile to the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been awarded the prestigious Oshita Composer Fellowship by the D'jerassi Foundation in California. As well, he is a Ph.D. candidate in Modern Thought and Literature at Stanford University. Founded in October 2002 by quique, jeremy allen (US), and maría fernanda acuña (Venezuela), Quijeremá draws from the musical roots of the Americas, incorporating jazz ideals with South American instruments and rhythms.
